Time to get back to work Stay naughty Savannah This weekend here in Canada is a ling weekend. It’s Victoria Day Long weekend. For those of you who don’t know what Victoria Day is I will give you a little bit of info before I post the rest of my blog. May 24, Queen Victoria’s birthday, was declared a holiday by the Legislature of the Province of Canada in 1845. In 1952 an amendment was made which changed the celebration of Victoria Day on the Monday before the 25th of May.. So this long weekend I joined my family and we headed out to spend sometime away from home. We went to Nipissing which is in Ontario. It’s about 400km away from where we live. We went to a place called Gniezno Camp. My parents had been to this place over the years and asked me to come along with them to get away and relax a little. The drive there was wonderful since there was so much to see. At one point we even saw a moose standing by the side of the highway. There was high rock walls on the side of part of the drive which looked beautiful
There was small lakes and rivers all around as we drove. You got to see so many animals and the scenery was truly something.
When we got there it was early afternoon so we still had the day ahead of us. We were greeted by rabbits that were running aound the camp. When we went for a walk I even managed to get close enough to take a photo.
The rabbits later on ended up coming back to the area where the trailer which we were staying at was. They didn’t seem too scarred since they were close once again. It was so nice to be outside and hear nothing but birds signing and trees rustling. There were many trees that had been cut down, not by people but by beavers who had chomped them down for their use. Here is one tree that had been started by a beaver but not completed.
After our walk my family and I were sitting out and my father had spotted a dear that had gone into the forest. About five minutes after it came back out but this time it was charging straight for us. My dog spotted it and he went charging for the dear. As yo can imagine worry set in. When he finolly stopped and we got him to come back to us, the dear was only a few feet away and charged around the chairs and went straight towards the other end of the camp site. I was just glad we didn’t get hurt and my dog didn’t get hurt. Saturday was the start of fishing season, so my father and I were up by 5:15am and off to go fish. Here you need a licence to fish and since I don’t fish much I didn’t have one. I went to keep my father some company. Growing up I use to fish a lot with him but as I got older there wasn’t time to do that anymore. The best part about going to fish was that the water was a few feet away from our trailer. When we got down to the dock my father cast his fishing line and the wait for a bite began. We were greeted by a beautiful rainbow when we turned to look down stream.
This is what it looks like during the day. This is a photo from where our trailer stood and you look down towards Lake Nipissing.
These photo’s are from the dock where we had gone to fish.
That first day we had no luck. No fish were caught. We found out later on that night that it was a full moon and for some reason fish don’t really bite during a full moon. We would try again the next day. That evening my parents made a bond fire where we got to roast hot dogs and enjoy ourselves.
By Sunday the weather was cloudy and chilly, plus it started to rain but that didn’t dampen our spirits. My father and I were up again to try for another round of fishing. At first nothing was biting. As the day went on things changed. The first few fish were small pickerel fish. The season for Bass had not opened yet so if you did catch one you had to release it, which we had done. Then the fish started coming starting with this one..
When we had left to go back to the trailer my father had left the fishing rod at the dock with a worm cast. When he went back down after about 2 hours, this is what he found. A large fish that is referred to as a sheeps head…It had went for the worm and got caught.
We let it go back into the water after I had taken a photo. In case you are wondering why, we were told that the meat of that particular fish was not that great. We left today, early morning…All in all the time away was wonderful. I did not write any even though I did take my laptop. I only rested and enjoyed the time with my parents being away. I hope that I can go back there again when it is warm. I’m happy to announce that my book Bid For Love has once again found a home. Lyrical Press Inc. will be releasing my book. Wohoooo..I’m so happy to see my book coming back out again. *Does happy dance*…I’m so thrilled…..
