Baby I’m Home

Oh how good it is to be back home. After being gone seven days I’m home. The time away went by so fast but I’m glad to be back at home. To be able to sit at my desk and to be able to do my work. I have come back to 21,098 email. Yes you are reading that correct. One week away and that’s how many emails have accumulated in my inbox.

So the week up north was fabulous. I got to go fishing with my father every morning while everybody slept. We had perfect weather the whole week there. The only bad day was Friday evening. It got cloudy and started to rain. By the middle of the night it was coming down like someone had opened a faucet and turned on the water. The thunder and lighting came strong while we were tucked away in our trailer.

While there we found some mushrooms in the forest, yes edible ones. My father caught his first walleye fish while he was there. We pretty much had fresh fish daily and it was a pike or catfish or bass.

We also had quite an adventure with a gigantic snapping turtle. It all started with when the turtle ate 2 of the 3 fish we had in the water. He ate 2 catfish and left the bass. About Saturday he started showing up more and more often while everybody was fishing. He even got caught on the hook a few times. Once he even made it up to the trailer when he got caught by a friend of ours. The big guy got out of the fish net and started running for the hill. It was crazy. He was jumping at everyone and clawing. We had to bring him up so we could get the hook out of this mouth. He had a huge tail that looked like an alligator tail.

One of our friends rented a boat for three days and my father and him went fishing while i just took in the scenery. As you can see from my pictures the view was amazing. So many different animals all around. We even made it to a waterfall and I tried to take a photo but it was a bit too dark.

I forgot to mention, when we arrived my mother had a bag of nuts that she left in front of the trailer next to the entrance. Well we heard some rustling and when we looked out we had our resident chipmunk come and start a fiesta…LOL…We brought the nuts for the little guy but he got started on his own. He ripped open the plastic bag and started stuffing his face. He would run and hide the load and come back for more. He wasn’t even afraid of us being around. At one time he was only a few centimeters away form my moms feet stuffing his mouth with nuts.

Friday night before we left we had a fireworks show that was put on by a friend of ours. He wanted to make it more memorable for his kids and do one more blast off.

We left around eleven am today and might I say we had some crazy weather. The temperature would jump from 28C to 19 in a matter of a minute. It got so dark and the clouds looked like they would be turning into a tornado. At some points the rain was coming down so hard that the windshield wipers on the car were not able to keep up and the highway was flooded. People had to turn on their emergency lights and drive so slowly because you had no visibility at all. The sewers on the highway could not keep up with collecting the water at the rate that the rain was falling. We even had hail and it was so hard that I saw a few dents in the car. I’m glad we made it back safe and sound.

It was a truly amazing week and I loved it. I finished pretty much the first round of edits on my book Love In The Fastlane and write 1/4 of my book Night’s Embrace. I also got 4000 words done of Unwrap Me. I wish I had gotten more work done but what the heck, I still had a productive week while trying to relax.

So now it’s back to those emails. I just went through 1000 and when I clicked the next set the 1000 came back. So I’m still sitting at over 21,000 emails and it will most likely take me a few more hours to catch up on everything that I have missed while I was away.

Fantastic pics, Savannah. My boys have been fishing all summer.

The one bad thing about snapping turtles is that they can be quite mean.

Dear Savannah,
Welcome home. Looks like you had a great time. You certainly were well away from civilization.

Wow, Savannah, sounds like you had a great time – and you got much better weather than we did here. Never heard of a snapping turtle doing that – you should had a lot of excitement.

Just don’t let the emails overwhelm you …
