The week has already started off with me chasing after pirates. No not the Johnny Depp kind…The other kind…The ones who take my books and feel that it is OK to give them away all over the net or even sell them.
When did that become OK?
I know I’ve said it here before pirates suck. Will there ever be a day where we authors get some help to try to fight and stop this garbage from happening to us. It is a never ending battle and some weeks you spend more time running around on the net sending out take down letters than getting writing done.
Why is it that you hear about lawsuits agains music and movie pirates but when it comes to books we do not exist. What are we chopped liver? Books are important too. I hope to see the day when we authors get a hand in this huge pain in the butt fight.

First off, I can’t imagine something that someone who has worked so hard for get taken away with a blink of an eye. Pirates do suck, and that’s why all authors should be able to stand up and say “Hey, that’s my work. That’s my blood, sweat and hard work your stealing and it’ aint’ right! I hope one day pirating is no more and authors get the respect they deserve!

Denise, you would be surprised at the reaction we get from the pirates. They feel they have the right to take your work and do whatever they wish with it.
Urm since when…Hello my name is on the book. I wrote it and I’m pretty sure it is mine…So no….
But they do not care one bit…
I am for one sickened by this. It’s absolutely wrong for people to do this and then when you tell them to take it down they won’t. But of course the big movie and music companies get it taken down because well they have lots and lots of money. Though that doesn’t make it right. When will someone stand up for the little guy and say “umm no you’re not doing this”? When will someone say “I for one will not do this”? Authors deserve just as much respect as actors/actresses/artist do. They do so much work to get their books out there and for what? People to steal it? It’s so very wrong.
Many people seem to feel that stealing the contents of a book is not as bad as stealing the contents of someone’s wallet or jewelry chest. Lots of words are available for free on the internet, so everything should be free. Maybe at some point authors will have to move to ad-supported content (like newspapers and magazines) as the only way to make money off their words. I wouldn’t welcome that, but as long as it’s so easy to copy work, people will do it and many who read it will not even realize it was copied illegally.
