Watch Out: Jocelyn Devon

Watch Out: Jocelyn Devon

Welcome to another edition of Watch Out. I want you to help me welcome author Jocelyn Devon to Watch Out.

Hi Jocelyn, such a pleasure to have you wish us today.

For the readers out there who might not know about you or your work, can you please tell them a little about yourself.

I am a small town country girl who has loved books and stories since childhood. I’m married with children and live on a small working ranch in Texas. Actually this isn’t my first published story I once wrote under the pen name of Terra Kent and had stories such as Haunted Embrace published in 2007.

I read on your site you are an amateur photographer, do you get inspired by your photography when it comes to writing?

Yes, I do and I love taking photos. It’s great way to get the creative juices flowing.

Can you tell us a little about your current releases?

It is a vampire erotic romance. It’s about a woman whose marriage falls apart because of her husbands affair. Not only does she have to deal with the affair but also the fact that he has given her HIV because of it. She met this man named Sterling and became very good friends with him. He falls in love with her but he has a secret of his own, he’s a vampire. Sometimes love can cure all things but you’ll have to read the story to find out how.

The publishing industry is constantly changing; do you think that eBooks will one day make paperback books nonexistent?

No, I don’t think that will ever happen, but this industry has given a broader range of authors the chance to be read that the normal paperback industry wasn’t able to.

What influences the topics, and genre’s that you pick to write a story in?

My own personal likes, interest, and topics that strike a cord with me.

One thing readers might be surprised to know about you?

That I am really a shy person. I don’t do well in crowds.

Do you find it difficult to try to stand out with your writing in an industry that is very competitive?

Yes, and I think many writers do, that is just part of the industry.

Your favourite part about being a writer?

Being able to stay home and keep my own hours.

Any interesting writing quirks you might have?

I like to listen to different styles of music for each story I write.

What are you currently reading?

Unhallowed Ground by Heather Graham

Would you ever or have you ever based a character on yourself?

No, I haven’t ever done that and it’s not likely to happen. My life isn’t the stuff that stories are made of, lol.

What do you think sets your stories apart from other authors?

Mine always carry and unusual twist that isn’t expected like with Wild Souls, there is the issue of HIV.

What do you do in your spare time when you are not bringing to life your amazing stories?

Definitely being a wife and mother. When I can squeeze it in my writing, photography and exploring places close to where I live.

Is there anything you’re currently working on that you can give us a taste of?

Not at the moment.

What is the best advice you ever got with regards to writing?

Read, read, read and always write from the heart.

What is one pet peeve you have when it comes to publishing?

I like to keep to a schedule when I am given one.

Any advice for new writers out there?

Yes, read, write from your heart and find the publisher that fits your needs, your story. Take time to do your research in finding the best publisher.

Where can readers find out more about you and your work?

At Red Rose Publishing, my blog Jocelyn Devon, http://writerjocelyndevon.blogspot.com

That was a good interview!

The book she’s working on sounds really interesting. A different twist on the vampire theme.
