Outrage Over A Teacher Who Writes Racy Novels

http://www.wnep.com/videobeta/89b21144-37d9-46c8-acd1-abf3602e574d/News/Parents-English-Teacher-Writes-Racy-Novels

I can’t tell you how angry I am regarding this situation. It is a sad day when people are condemning a woman who is a teacher by day and also writes erotic novels.

The comments that are being made from these parent’s are sickening..First off the author does not write under her real name and second how close minded are people.

Just because she writes erotic novels they think she is some kind of monster or pervert. All I can say is are these people for real? Just because one writes erotic books does not mean that one walks around looking at everything in a sexual way…They say all this crap about how it is wrong and blah blah woof woof…Give me a break. What she does in her own time is her business. She’s not walking around the school selling her books or telling people what she does. Is there a crime against wanting to have success and do something that you are passionate about? If there is then damn I must have been under a rock.

This kind of thinking is just heartbreaking and disgusting….I think people should really open their eyes..I am showing my support towards Judy Mays. She is an amazing author who is very talented. Show your support as well.
It is not bad enough we have to fight to get somewhere as an author but we have to deal with this kind of crap.

Savannah

These parents are hypocrites…do not tell me that NO ADULT in this world has had one or more sexual thoughts in they’re life time and has acted them out! These parents want to raise they’re kids this way that’s fine, but there is no need for they’re closed mindedness to ruin everyone else’s good time and to bring the teacher down just because she writes erotica.

Disgusting how people are these days, GET OVER IT PEOPLE it’s 2011!

Denise the sad thing is the author does not scream what she does. She seperated her real life from her author life with a pen name but no they still have to try to destroy a hard working woman….Such shame…

I myself won’t read erotica.. I just can’t. I try and will if a few friends write a story and ask me to review but i will skip over the steemy parts. but I would never tell anyone what to do.
PArents decide in their own homes what they want kids to read. I sent my son to a private school because i was a teacher in the publicc school and it was so violent. But I did watch what he watched and if they tried to tell him no with reading books I did fight it and won.
However, I was not so lucky in keeping my job- actually two of them.
I got in trouble in the news paper for teaching witchcraft because I was teaching Harry Potter and another job because I am associated with vampires.
I have learned unfortunately to not bring up what i do in my college classes – now. and watch what gets out and play it down when it does.
it’s sad but I have also found that the meetaphysical world even finds that I am evil and too dark for their world..lol
well, I am sorry for her.
BTW KY still has the old conduct policies from the 1800’s – that women have to attend church, cannot be out in public without a man – but it’s worded differently in our code of conduct. We as teacher take an oath to lead a claean and upstanding life and they can dismiss you if your do not live up to the teaching standards of the state

Bertena, I think people can read what they want nobody is forcing them to read erotica. Nobody would have even known that she writes erotica if it were not for the news outing her. She kept it secret and seperated her day lie with her author life. Just because she writes does not make her a horrible woman. She has the right to do what she wants and her books were not affecting her teaching. It is sad that they are trying to destroy her just because she writes erotica. People do worse things out there…It is sad that that you had to get into trouble as well.

Hey, as people we are trying to find excuses for something that we don’t really understand, but saying something like that. What she does in her spare time is just what please her. They are trying to start up some trouble for her, and I’m mad , because someone has nothing else to do with there spare time. Well I like to support her for being a strong person and keep doing what you love, bacause someone will always bring you down. So what she goes under a different name the two are seperated? But we all need support and that is something that I would love to for her and all.

Oh my, what century are we living in ? It’s a sad commentary on life when someone cannot put free speech on a page, whether it be erotica, a thriller, or a mystery novel. Erotica is a legitimate genre of writing that requires the same discipline as writing any other story.

To make Judy Mays out to be a pariah because she is an author of sexy stories is so wrong – I can’t even voice my anger over it. Would these parents be any less concerned if she wrote novels in the Stephen King style? Would they be afraid she was some sort of a serial murderer?

Erotica is fiction – it comes from the imagination of the writer. It does not imply she is a sex maniac, that she’ll molest their kids, or do anything of the like.

People need to use their brains, for god’s sake! Sex is the most natural thing, but somehow erotica is dirty? Savannah, you and I and everyone commenting here support Judy, but I think it’s also our jobs to educate some of these very misinformed (I ‘m being very kind using this word) parents. They are not teaching their children any lessons by their conduct – mainly that they are intolerant, fearful of the unknown, and willing to ruin a woman’s career without all the facts.

Bravo Parents – you set the perfect example of people I wouldn’t want my kids to grow up to be like.

The interesting thing is that if you read through commentary supporting Mrs. B. on the FB page or elsewhere, people have known for years that she writes erotic romance and it’s never bothered anyone. Former students have written in, parents of both former and current students have written in, and not one single one of them finds Mrs. B.’s writing career problematic. There has never been a single complaint lodged against her during her 25 year tenure as a high school English teacher, either. Now, a handful of ignorant women who clearly have an axe to grind find some stupid young “reporter” hoping to make a name for herself and they drag Mrs. B.’s name through the muck in an attempt to get some attention for themselves. That is all this story is, was and ever will be about: a pack of attention whores maligning an innocent woman who has had a deeply positive influence on her students for a quarter of a century. The pettiness and selfishness behind this is appalling.

And now the women who started this are whining about how they’re being trashed on FB and around the social media circuit. Gee, looks like they got the attention they were begging for. Funny thing about attention, however — sometimes it doesn’t turn out exactly like you thought it would. What hypocrites!

What bothers me is some of these parents insinuated she may be a pedophile because she writes erotic romance. She went to great lengths to keep her writing separate from her teaching, to have two separate persona’s, by using a pen name and never discussing or bringing her books to class.

Whatever parent discovered her writing should have approached Judy first privately. I’m sure Judy would have made sure to ease any doubts that person had.

Someone had made a good point on another discussion of this. If Judy were a man and wrote gory, horror books like Stephen King, ‘he’ would have been carried on the parents shoulders as a savior and they would have fought to get their kids into ‘his’ class.

Casey that is horrible to make her seem like that…Some people just like to stirr up crap…What were they thinking this would do? Maybe they wanted their 5 min of fame because they stirred up some crap…More people hate themfor what they have done to Judy and nobody supports them. Not a very smart move..I find it funny how they said they don’t read these kind of books but discovered about her books on line…Urm so what were you doing on her site?

Angelika DevlynApril 28th, 2011 at 3:49 pm

Oh there’s lots of reasons why several of my friends who work with kids keep quiet about what they do – this really doesn’t surprise me, but it is wrong. And it’s the stirrers that are most probably jealous, who make issues like this rear their ugly head – making the whole situation far, far worse than it ever needed to be.

What people do in their private life should be just that – private, or at least – nothing to do with anyone else not involved.

Makes me wonder just how many people from her school are now in her Yahoo group, waiting to hear more gossip!

[Reply]

Savannah ChaseApril 28th, 2011 at 5:30 pm

Angelika the thing is, she never told people about her books…The parents found out on their own…Makes you wonder….This whole thing just shows that people really have nothing better to do..Why don’t you go after the people that are a danger and not hard working people…

Yeah, I’ve commented on this story elsewhere last week about how much it burns me up that we’re still dealing with things like this. I’m saddened that writing about sex between consenting adults would be equated with criminal acts like pedophilia. Just … sad.
