Watch Out: Author Serenity King

WATCH OUT: Serenity King Interview

SC: I want to welcome you all to another edition of Watch Out. This week I’m excited to bring you author Serenity King. Welcome to Watch Out, it is so great to have you here.

SC: For the readers out there who might not know about you or your work, can you please tell them a little about yourself.

Hello, Savanah! I am so happy to be here today. I am a writer of interracial and multicultural erotic romance.  I have been writing for little over a year now, and am enjoying myself tremendously.  I have works published with Beautiful Trouble Publishing, Mocha Memoirs Press, and Shara Azod, LLC.

SC: Can you tell us a little about your current release?

My current release Riding the Wave is part of a series: Boys of Summer published through Shara Azod, LLP. The story is set in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. AM/BW. TeKsuen Montreal is in Myrtle Beach staying in in Oceanfront Condo, where he’s been vacationing for the past three years, when he sees a young woman walking alone along the shoreline from his balcony, and decides to pursue her. Unbeknownst to him he’s met her before; in fact he’s had a one night stand with her a long ago.  Josinia Brown is in Myrtle Beach with her best friend and two of her sorority sisters to get away from dealing with the stresses of her life. She is shocked when a man she’s slept with long ago approaches her on the beach. Josinia is even more surprised to learn that the man has no idea who she is. Needless to say the two embark on a romance filled fun, steamy sex, and much, more more (paraphrased).  You will find a detailed excerpt below.

SC: Have you ever based a character in your books on yourself?

All of my characters have a little bit of me in them.

SC: One thing readers might be surprised to know about you?

You mean other than the fact that I’m a freak *snicker*. Just kidding.  There is absolutely nothing surprising about me at all.

SC: If you could go back in time what century would you like to spend a day in?

Hmm, century is so broad. I would have to say the 20th Century:  As far as decade: 70s or 80s.

SC: What is the biggest misconception you think people have about erotic authors?

That it’s porn or what I have heard a great deal of people refer to as “Trashy.”

SC: Your favourite part about being an author?

Writing and the fans. I love hearing what readers have to say.

SC: What are you currently reading?

Nothing at all. I just finished a few books. I do have a huge TBR pile that’s waiting for my attention, Lol. I am just too busy with writing projects and getting ready for school to read anything at the moment. I do plan on catching up very soon.

SC: If you were not an author what would you pick as the next dream job?

Fashion Designer or Interior Decorator.

SC: Favourite word?

I have two words that I use entirely too much: Awesome and Da Hell!

SC: What 3 words would you use to describe your books?

Erotic, Fiery, and Distinctive.

SC: What do you think sets your stories apart from other authors?

Haven’t a clue.

SC: Personally what do you think is the hardest part about being an author?

Putting your blood, sweat, and tears into a piece only to someone rip it apart with a bad review.

SC: What do you do in your spare time when you are not binging new stories alive and writing?

Taking care of my family and going to school. I’m in school for psychology.

SC: Is there anything you’re currently working on that you can give us a taste of?

To be provided.

SC: What is the best advice you ever got with regards to writing?

Take the good with the bad and move on, never let anyone change your voice, and not to strive to be a good writer…strive to be a GREAT author.

SC: What is one pet peeve you have when it comes to publishing?

Nothing as of yet.

SC: Any advice for new writers out there?

Perfect your craft. That’s it. I am new myself so I don’t particularly like giving advice.

SC: Where can readers find out more about you and your work?

HI there Serenity,
I agree with you. When people call erotic romance porn, it gets my goat. Ugh.
Once, someone actually called it “friendly porn” Hm I wasn’t too happy with that either. LOL
Boys of Summer sounds like a hit. I am wondering what Mr. Montreal is going to think when he finds out that he’s “met” her before. lol

It used to really bug me too when people called erotic romance and erotica porn, but now I’m starting to wonder whether or not that’s such a bad thing. Porn is intended to stimulate you with pictures, and books are intended to stimulate you with words. Now if someone accuses me of reading or writing “porn” I correct them by saying it’s MENTAL porn, and keep it moving. 😀

Your site and your books look hot, Serenity!

Hey Se, great interview and advice hon. Yes, it is a pain in the arse when folks call erotic romance porn. They just don’t know any better. Like my auntie. She’s the one who got me turned on to romance in my teen years. Well, she runs the other way when I start talking about my books. * evil grin* And, I’m definitely picking this book up! Looks hot!!!

Take care chica! you should have posted this on the group!

Love the premise of this story. I also love the BW/AM dynamics. Will definitely be added to my TBR list.

OOoo, sounds super hawt ma! Can’t wait to pick up your book. Loved this interview!
Truly, it does tweak a nerve when erotic romance is referred to as porn. How many people actually watch porn from beginning to end. Not many. Most people fast forward through the bad acting to the good stuff. I don’t know anyone who flips through the pages of an erotic romance novel just to get to the juicy scenes. *giggle*
Wonderful Interview Se.
Dropping this on my fan page. :o)
