#FFF Flash Fiction Friday: Tears Of An Angel

Flash Fiction Friday is back baby..100 words no more, no less. We all get a photo and must write a flasher to it. Hope you like this weeks picture.

Tears Of An Angel

Her tired head rested in the palm of her hands as she closed her eyes and held back the sting of tears making their way to the surface. The coldness of the snow seeped into her numbing limbs. Her heart ached, shattering into a million pieces.

She’d failed.

Tried to save him, but it hadn’t been enough.

They’d promised his safety in return for her freedom. She’d been foolish to trust, to ever think they’d keep their word. But at that moment all she wanted was to protect him. To save him from this hell that she was now in.

Now get on over to all these other authors who have decided to take on the flasher challenge.

Tears Of An Angel- extended edition

Her tired head rested in the palm of her hands as she closed her eyes and held back the sting of tears making their way to the surface. Bitter coldness of the fresh fallen snow seeped into her numbing limbs, her exhausted wings. It robbed any remaining heat from her warm body while the deep darkness of despair consumed her mind. Drained her of any energy left to fight this place, the evil that was coming to claim its latest victory.

“How could I be so foolish?” The questions continued to run through her thoughts over and over.

Her heart ached, while it shattered into a million irreplaceable shards. Each one heavier than the last, scarring her deep within. The pain crippled her, making it hard to breathe, to think. His beautiful face is the only image she held onto. She never wanted to let it go. Now he would be her saviour. Her guardian angel. Centuries passed her, and all her life she’d waited to find the one who’d she’d surrender her heart to. How could she have failed at the only thing she’d ever done in all of her existence? To save his precious soul. To save him from the evils that plagued her existence. To protect him from the world.

His last words held onto her breaking heart, grasped onto her soul. “I love you.”

Everything she’d done to keep him safe, none of it mattered now. None of it came close to being enough.

“Please forgive me for failing you. I love you more than you will ever know,” she whispered to the emptiness around her.

They’d promised his safety in return for her freedom. After all he is just an innocent who she’d been foolish to trust, to ever think they’d ever keep their word. But at that moment all she wanted was to protect him. To save him from this hell that she was now in. Instead she’d condemned him to his own eternity of damnation. His soul would never rest.

A deep sigh escaped her as the black crows descended in her direction. Her pain a beacon of her location. No matter how much she’d tried to keep it at bay, conceal it, the power, the ache consumed her, dragged her into a deep dark abyss. Her failed attempt to be saved a reminder by the markings in the snow. Nobody heard her cries, and they never would. The croak of the single crow on the tree above her head vibrated through her, sending fearful chills that pierced her soul. The time was near. They’d come for her. To steal the remainder of the goodness in her pure heart.

Perhaps she can still find him, save him. Where there is life, there is hope. Sometimes the greatest pain of all is when we fail the ones we love, when we can’t protect them, no matter how hard we try. Excellent Ms. Savannah, well done – I felt her pain and anguish.

Benjamin, you are right. There is always hope no matter how dark the situation gets. There are times when we can’t always protect the one we love and it will hurt us but we can’t let it destroy us. Thank you so much for your comment. You always leave me thinking.

Bonni, thank you. I am glad it did. 100 words does not leave a lot of space to convey all you want.
