Today I have the pleasure of welcoming the sexy Rae McCartney to Watch out. She’s sitting in the hot seat and talking about Erotica versus porn and she introduces you to her latest hot release Lovers Undercover: Devoted. The tittle is very sexy and I’m intrigued to read this blazing book.
Erotica vs. Porn
By Rae McCartney
Ah, the great debate. . .is there a difference between erotica and pornography . If so what is the difference. Trust me, there is. . .
Erotica comes from Greek, eros “desire”. Erotica are works of art, including, but not limited to literature, photography, film, sculpture and painting that deal essentially with erotically stimulating or sexually arousing descriptions. The term describes the portrayal of the human anatomy and sexuality with high art aspirations.
Pornography’s objective is the graphic depiction of sexually explicit scenes and is often described as exploitative or degrading.
And that’s where modern commercialism leaves it; as a definition in a book and nothing more. Today, thanks to the likes of the Fifty Shades phenomenon, the two are intertwined and co-mingled.
To the chagrin of many, Fifty Shades is not erotica as some have tagged the series. If you’re after true contemporary erotica, try reading “The Story of O”, a classic.
“The Story of O” is an erotic novel about love, dominance and submission, written in 1954 by the French author Anne Desclos under the pen name of Pauline Reage. It is supposedly loosely based on a series of love letters the author had written to her lover, Jean Paulhan. The book was not without scandal, even in France.
I could sit here and give a quick synopsis of what each book is about – they have a lot of similarities when it comes to the dominance and submission part, but that’s where it stops. Read both books and I believe you will see a difference.

Bio
Rae McCartney’s life has never been boring. Born and bred in the UK, she eventually went on to attend the prestigious University of St. Andrews in Scotland.
Among her many talents, Rae has worked as a fashion model, photographer and even as an extra in Hollywood movies. She turned her talents and knowledge to head up her own public relations firm, which included a photograph division allowing her to work with some world-class photographers.
Currently she is using those skills in a different direction, writing and analyzing photographs for clients.
Her entry into erotic romance is nothing new having written stories since she was a child, this was another phase of her writing career. The first of her Lovers Undercover series, Impassioned came out in early 2012, wetting her appetite for more.

Logan McGregor is a music superstar. . .he’s also a man of many talents. Hidden talents. Some that he’s been forced to reveal and use. Ones that he wished would have stayed hidden.
Scarlett Bouvier is not only his lover, she’s his business partner and Logan would do anything to protect her and keep her out of harm’s way. But Scarlett is stubborn and does not take no for an answer. A savvy and successful businesswoman in her own right, Scarlett is a force to be reckoned with – both in the boardroom and the bedroom.
But someone from Scarlett’s past has revealed themselves and must be stopped. Someone who uses the world of sex clubs and BDSM as a front to their own dark and illegal enterprise. And Logan and Scarlett are the only two who can successfully infiltrate and help put an end to the madness.
Travel with the pair as they find themselves in the elite world of Monte Carlo, the exclusive clubs of Paris to Las Vegas as they chase down a sinister figure, and Logan introduces Scarlett to a world she’s only read about.
Excerpt
The dress I wore, which he had picked out for me hung in a straight line below my breasts. The sheer fabric clung to my breasts, my décolletage showcased for all to see. Nothing too out of the ordinary for Paris—we had been seated in a discreet corner of the dining room thanks to Keller earlier. Logan, knowing every part of my body I’m sure was able to make out my most private parts and I hoped no one else could.
We entered through the heavy wooden doorway, past the door attendant—more likely bouncer where we were met by none other than Lisa. Logan immediately noticed her go over us with a fine tooth comb.
“Good evening, Scarlett, Logan,” she purred. “So glad you made it. I know Richard will be pleased to know you are here.” She extended her arm indicating which direction for us to walk. “I thought you might like a drink while you wait on Richard. He has some client’s he’s busy with, but he’ll be with you shortly.”
“Thank you, Lisa,” Logan replied as he put his hand on the small of my back.
“Scarlett, where are your nipple huggers or your nipple clamps?” She stared directly at my see through dress as though in horror.
I opened the small evening bag I carried and pulled a pair of silver-looking nipple huggers out. “I have them right here, Lisa. I thought it a little inappropriate to wear them at the restaurant we had dinner at.”
I knew Logan had forgotten all about them. They were something he hadn’t introduced me to, but I was sure now wished he had.
Lisa seemed to be appeased and nodded her head as she led us to a booth. “Champagne?”
“Yes, that would be lovely. A fresh, new bottle, however for my sub and myself, please.” Logan was taking no chances that Richard might have drugging us planned.

Rae, thank you for being my wonderful guest today on Watch Out. So happy to have you. I have lost count at the amount of times people still say, you write porn, when they find out I’m an erotic romance author. It is funny to see the look on their face and then I explain to them that there is a big difference.

I was just explain to my mom, who is still lives in horror that I write that stuff, that the difference between porn and erotica is that you can remove the sex from porn and you have no story. Remove the sex from erotica and you still have a story.
Good luck with your release.

Hi Rae. That excerpt sounded soooo good. I always hate that us writers have to constantly tell people the difference between porn and erotica. I just don’t even worry about it anymore. Good luck with the book!
