When Midnight Calls- Fear (P4)
His heart raced frantically with every leap from one rooftop to the next as the gentle night breeze brushed against his heated skin. Pain assaulted every inch of his bloodstained and battered body.
He barely let his feet touch the ground beneath him.
Run, run with every last remaining ounce of energy you’ve got left.
His mind kept shouting, over and over even when his body was ready to give out from the massive amount of blood he’d lost. The bitch had managed to get a few good strikes during the attack but not before he’d inflicted his own damage on her.
Vanus didn’t even need to turn around, he knew it, and he felt it, her presence. Smelled the stench of human flesh, the sweet nectar of her warm blood coursing through her as she stalked him even now. He knew she wouldn’t last long. Not with the state he’d left her in.
How was she expecting to do anything in her beat up state?
His eyes focused on the old abandoned brick building just a few feet ahead of him. The jump was too much, probably more than his body could handle right now. What other choice did he have? He had to do it. The crossing would bring him possible salvation, an escape from the slayer.
Vanus inhaled deeply, his body cried out in pain, protesting against each breath. She’d broken his ribs during the battle. Another thing she would pay for.
Without another thought he threw his body off the ledge and into the air. He’d barely blinked when his feet touched the roof of the other side. His knees crushed against the scattered rocks that blanketed the ground beneath him.
No way could she make the jump, even with all the power she held.
For the first time he actually turned back towards her. The slayer stood at the ledge, panting for air, looking around for another way to get to him. To her dismay she found none.
“We’re not done you filthy piece of trash,” she yelled out.
“No, we’re not. When I bleed you dry is when we will be done. I will relish every drop I take from your mortal body,” he replied.
Curling his fingers into a fist he clenched his jaw. Oh he would make her pay. Not now, but soon the day will come when he will taste her blood. Watch her slowly die as retribution for her crimes. She’d hunted his people, slaughtered them ruthlessly.
“We shall see who kills who first. So far I’ve been on the winning side. I’m going to eradicate all of you, if it’s the last thing I do. I will exterminate you from this world,” she shouted. Her voice laced with hate and raging anger.
He shook his head at her words. She held such confidence in her powers. He knew he would bask in the day when he would prove her wrong. So very, very wrong.
Letting out a tiresome sigh he pushed himself off the cold ground and continued into the night. He needed to find a place where he could rest for the night, a place to heal his wounded body and to feed.
To be continued….
