Last weekend my family and I took the chance to get away for the last time. We headed up North again. The weather was perfect from the start. The only bad thing was there were no fish. They were not biting so my father only caught one fish the Friday we got there. The rest of the weekend not one single catch….
Saturday after the kids had gone swimming we took a walk and found some mushrooms. We found a basket full, and four to five were the size of your hand. I took a picture of the first 2 we found. While we were there a wild turkey came out and was following us around. It was pretty funny actually because once we spotted him he would try to hide behind the trees and then when we would move he would move with us.
This time around the trip wasn’t that exciting but it was still fun. The Sunday before we left a few of us to a walk into the other side of the forest because my father wanted to check if there were any mushrooms there. While in the forest we stumbled on some on cars. When I say old I mean old. We are not sure but we estimate them to be from the 1950’s. The weird thing is there is no way to drive up there or even get them there anymore because there are a ton of rock formations around that area and it makes it impossible. There are small trails but that’s big enough for a person to walk in.

We also found this old tractor that was busted up and the parts were tossed all around. You can see some of the stuff in the background of the picture. From the looks of it it’s a very old machine. We figure a long time ago the cars had to have been dragged into the forest and dumped there for some unknown reason.

This is the first car we found. When we found it the hood and trunk were closed so one of the people with us opened both of them up. We wondered how on earth these cars even got here. I think someone even made a comment about looking in the trunk to see if there was anything in there.
Look at the tires of the car. The old style black and white tires.

This is what the first car looked like under the hood. The engine was still in there. It’s amazing that after such a long time the wires still are visible and intact.

On the other side was this car. The engine was removed and the car was more stripped of it’s parts.

The third car we found a few feet away was turned upside down.

Walking a few feet further to another part of the forest we found this car. It’s a Dodge. In case you are wondering how I know, it’s because we found a logo on the back of the car that was still intact. I posted a photo of it below. Out of all the four cars this one was best preserved.

This is a picture inside the car of the dash. You can see the gear shift in front of the steering wheel and the levers. The first level reads Throttle. I couldn’t make out the rest of them.

The reason I took pictures of the cars is because they inspired a scene for the first book in the Secretly Gifted Series. I kept wondering what could have happened to the cars or how they got here and it hit me. I can’t wait for you guys to read the book and see the scene I’m talking about.
Like I said the weekend wasn’t that eventful but this find was a highlight. I still wonder how long have the cars been there. Time has hidden them inside the forest and so have the huge rock hills.
I’m not a car person so I don’t know the exact models of these cars but when I have some free time I will try to do some research to see if I can find out what models these cars were and the exact year.
This was a great way to end off the last summer trip for this year. Some relaxing, fresh air, family and a find of old classic cars.
